NOAC

NOAC stands for the National Order of the Arrow Conference.  This conference draws about 7,000 Arrowmen from across the United Stated every 2-3 years.

It is held on a University campus usually in the Midwest.  Participants are housed in college dorms, eat in the cafeterias and generally have use of the full campus including its recreational facilities. It is usually held in late July or early August.

Lodge must register their contingent by the first of the year in which the conference is being held.  Costs vary depending on whether or not the Lodge plans some sort of tour in addition to just attending the conference.  in recent years the costs for about 8-10 days (5 days are the conference) have averaged about $1,200.00 including airfare, ground transportation and the cost of the conference.

NOAC staff are drawn from arrowmen who apply for the positions.

The format is to have classes in the morning and activities in the afternoons.  Evenings are set aside for large stage shows for the entire group, directed and produced by members of the OA.  Classes are on subjects of leadership, OA procedures and interests, Native American subjects and other subjects of interest.  There are over 400 of them.

In addition there are competitions on OA related subjects such as ceremonies, on field and team sports and other activities.

One of the best activities is Founder's Day.  As part of it, lodges from across the nations bring unique food items, displays, etc. from their particular areas of the country.

When it is about time to start planning for NOAC the Web site will have an area dedicated to the conference and the lodge plans.
