NOMINATING ADULT MEMBERS

Adults may become members of the Order of the Arrow.  They may be nominated (not elected) by (a) Council level committees or officers, (b) District Committees (usually the Camping Committee) and (c) Units.

Adults may be nominated whenever their participation in the OA will provide increased training and activity for the youth members or will serve to promote the OA through the adult's participation in his or her Scouting assignment.

Each adult nominated must be over the age of 21 and must have fulfilled the camping requirement which is 15 days and night of Scout sponsored camping within the previous 2 years and at least 5 of those days and nights must be consecutive at a long term camp.  While the lodge officers may waive the camping requirement, at the present time they have elected to require it.

With Districts and Council level nominations there is no limit however with Unit nominations the requirement is that each unit that holds an election may nominate 1 adult to become a member.  The nomination is usually made by the Unit Committee Chairman and turned in separate from the youth election form.  The person making the nomination uses the appropriate lodge form, completes it and turns it into the Lodge Adviser.

Nominations are turned into the Lodge Adviser using the Adult Nomination form.  It is a PDF form that can be filled out online, printed and submitted.

Nominations must be approved by the Scout Executive or his designee.  In accordance with all adult activity, adults cannot be called out until such approval is given.  The chapter is notified that approval has been given and then the adult is contacted about completing his or her Ordeal.

Adults attend and complete the Ordeal in the same manner as the Youth member.
