UNIT ELECTIONS

Scout Troops and Varsity Teams are invited to hold unit elections each year.  A Unit may hold an election 1 time per year - a "year" is determined by the unit year or the lodge as some like to do them in a calendar year and some at a special camp etc.  In order to determine if you have eligible members for election check out the Membership Requirements section of the web site.

Upon request, (see Requesting Elections)  an election team will come to your unit and hold the election.  If you have a member of the OA already in the unit or its leadership, that individual may hold the election for you.

The election team will show a brief video explaining the Order of the Arrow and then conduct the election.  Every boy who is eligible has the opportunity to be elected, there are no nominations, each appears on the ballot.  There is also no campaigning allowed by those eligible.  A youth may remove his name, but not campaign for election.

Elections are completed by secret ballot or other process designed to conceal the identity of who is voting for whom.  Any boy who garners 50% of the vote or more is elected.  There is no quota.

The members of the unit will be asked to vote for those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.  A boy may vote for himself and OA members in the unit under the age of 21 may vote also.

An election may be schedule by contacting the Vice Chief over elections and giving him a couple of dates that will work for your unit.  Or you can contact your district chapter adviser to schedule the unit.  If your district is without a chapter adviser, please contact the Lodge Adviser.

If you are a Unit Leader and are a member of the OA, you may hold the election in your own unit.  Please download the Election Form and after the election complete it and forward it to the Lodge Adviser so that the boys can get contacted about the upcoming ordeals.
